Jenn Tregale, Head Coach

Jenn provides a wealth of knowledge and exprience to the athletes she coaches as well as the coaching staff she works with. Some of her recent accomplishments include:

2012

  • Named Head Coach of the Junior Worlds Team

2011

  • Named Team Alberta Head Coach for the Canada Winter Games, leading to a silver medal in team and bronze in duet
  • Coached to 8 gold medals at the Canadian Open Championships - junior figures (Claudia Holzner), junior solo (Claudia Holzner), junior duet (Holzner/Brisson), junior team (Gladiator team), COSSC Combo (Cotton Eyed Joe), senior solo tech (Madison Allen), senior duet tech (Allen/Traub), senior duet championship (Allen/Traub)
  • Named Head Coach of Junior National Team that won 5 gold medals at the UANA Junior Pan American Championships in Montreal, QC - figures (Gabriella Brisson), solo (Claudia Holzner), duet (Brisson/Holzner), team and combo
2010
  • Assistant Coach of the Synchro Canada Junior Worlds Team, who won Bronze in solo, duet, and team
  • Coached Tier 6 15&Under Team and Combo Team to Silver medals and Duet to Bronze at Espoir Nationals
  • Coached Tier 7 Jr Team, Duet, and Solo to Bronze and Combo to Silver at Canadian Open Championships
2009
  • Named Head Coach of the National Junior Team, leading to 5 Gold Medals at the Junior Pan American Championships
  • Coached Tier 6 15&Under Team (Jungle team) to Bronze medal at Espoir Nationals
  • Coached to 3 gold medals at the Canadian Open Championships - Tier 7 Senior Tech Team (Jitterbug team), Senior Solo (Courtenay Grant) and Duet (Emily Brooks/Rosilyn Tegart)
2008
  • Named Head Coach for the Synchro Canada National B Team
2007
  • Named assistant coach to Junior National Team
  • Coached Senior solo to gold medal and Senior Team to a Bronze at the Canadian Open Championships
  • Nominated by Synchro Alberta for Coaching award in outstanding achievements in Synchro in the province of Synchronized Swimming
2006
  • Received the Suzanne Eon Coaching Award for recognition in commitment to coaching excellence and for placing swimmers in finals at nationals.
2005
  • Co-coached Canadian Open Junior Duet to 4th place (Brianna D’Amico, Courtenay Grant, Samantha Larose), Junior Solo Bronze Medalist (Alison McKenny), Combo Team Bronze Medalists (Funky team), and Junior Team Bronze Medalists (Stampede team)
2004
  • Became Head Coach of the Calgary Aquabelles

Kim Strachan, Wildrose Coordinator

Kim has been with the Calgary Aquabelles for many years and brings a huge amount of technical knowledge to our club. She swam with the Belles from 1974-1979 and was on the National Team for 5 years. Kim will help the coaches at Wildrose to ensure that the swimmers are learning their skills properly from day one. She has great plans for the girls and we know the amount of time and effort she puts in to the club will allow the girls to achieve their goals and show improvement in their techniques. Her coaching career includes the following:
  • 1989-1991 Coached 12 & Under team
  • 1984-1988 Coached Senior A team, finishing team gold or silver 3 out of 4 years, gold in solo and duet all 4 years
  • 1983-1988 National B team head coach
  • 1983 Coached Alberta Team for the Canada Winter Games to 4 golds and 1 silver
  • 1981-1984 Coached Senior B team, including 2 years in the top 3 at Nationals
  • 1980 Coached 10 & Unders

As well, Kim has been coaching the Aquamums Masters for many years.

Pam Larose, Coach

Pam brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Aquabelles. As a former head coach of the Aquabelles, Pam has coached many athletes to great success, including several who went on to become Synchro Canada National and Olympic level athletes. It is this early development coupled with a long term plan that allows Aquabelles athletes the success they all achieve. Some of her accomplishments include:
  • Certified Level 1 Crossfit Trainer
  • 2005 Won Gold in Team event at the World Masters Games in Edmonton
  • 2002 Became Head Coach for the Aquabelles
  • 1989-2007 Coached the Calgary Aquamums and competed as a Masters swimmer
  • 1996 Competed in the World Aquatic Masters in Sheffield, England, winning Silver in Team and Gold in Duet with Carol Fitzsimmons
  • 1990-1996 Provincial Coach
  • 1982 Began coaching with the Calgary Aquabelles  

Jaime Thompson, Coach

Jaime joined the Aquabelles in 2011 as one of the NAG coaches.  She has her BSc from Dalhousie University and has been a Level 3 coach since 2005.  Jaime has also achieved becoming a Master Learning Facilitator and Master Evaluator.  Jaime's coaching accomplishments include:
  • 2011 Apprentice coach at the UANA Junior Pan American Championships and Apprentice coach for Team Alberta at the Canada Winter Games
  • 2010 - 2011 NAG Coach with the Edmonton Auroras
  • 2010 Head Coach for the Provincial team (Team Alberta) bronze medalists at the US Open
  • 2009 Assistant Coach for Team Alberta
  • 2008 - 2010 Head Coach for Red Deer Synchro Club
  • 2007 Head Coach for Team Nova Scotia at the Canada Winter Games
  • 2003 - 2007 Provincial / National Stream Coach for Atlantis Synchro Halifax

Kelly Kryczka-Irwin, Coach

We are very pleased to have Kelly as a critical member of our coaching staff. Kelly is a former Synchro Olympian, winning Silver in duet at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Kelly has too many achievements to list, but rest assured that she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Aquabelles program.
 

Sarah Alexander, Coach

Sarah excited to have returned to the Aquabelles as a coach. She was a member of the club for 17 years, 5 of which were on the National Team. In 2001, she won a bronze medal at the World Championships in the team event. After retiring from the sport in 2002, Sarah helped coach the Seniors (Tier 7) and extra routines (Tier 6 and 7) for a few years. These days, she enjoys Ashtanga yoga and her career as a Civil Engineer both of which have helped her to develop an interesting perspective on the sport. Sarah cannot guarantee results, but will try her best, even if it means leading by example and doing splits with the swimmers.
 

Shannon Benson, Coach

Shannon has been a coach with the Aquabelles since 2010 and has her NCCP Level 3 credentials. While her coaching interests primarily lay at the club level, Shannon has experience coaching the Alberta Provincial team to the US Open in 2009. Furthering her international experience, Shannon coached the Aruba National team to the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games and aided in their efforts to successfully qualify for the 2011 Pam American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. To compliment the work she is doing with the girls at the pool, Shannon is in her second year of the Bachelor of Education program at the University of Calgary. And because that is not enough to keep her busy, Shannon is also the founding president of the University of Calgary’s Dinos Synchro Club and has swam on the team since their inaugural year in 2006.
 

Emily Brooks, Coach

Emily has been involved in synchro for the past 13 years and spent 11 of them as an athlete with the Aquabelles. She was a member of the 2005 13-15 National Team that competed at the Comen Cup in Greece and was also a member of the 2008 Junior Worlds team where they competed in Moscow, Russia. Emily is also a past Senior Team and Duet Tech and Free National Champion. She moved to Kingston, Jamaica for 3 months to become the head coach of their club. Emily is very excited to have a new team this year and eager to teach the new Aquabelles everything they need to know to become great athletes.
 

Braley Traub, Coach

Braley is heading into her second year coaching with the Aquabelles after 11 years as an athlete with the Club. She was a member of the Canadian National 13-15 Team in 2007 and the Canadian National Junior Team in 2010 where they competed in Indianapolis at Junior Worlds.  In 2011, while coaching, Braley also won gold in the Senior Duet Tech and Senior Duet Championshps at the Canadian Open Championships. Braley is very excited to be coaching our young Aquabelles, alongside Emily and the Pre-competitive program with Madison Allen.
 

Madison Allen, Coach

Madison Allen was a synchronized swimmer for 11 years.  She swam with Edmonton Auroras for 10 of those years and her final year wasa with the Aquabelles. In 2007 she made the 13-15 National team. Maddie competed at the 2009 US open in Tucson Arizona and 2010 US open in Irving Texas for Team Alberta. In 2011, she competed at the Canada Winter Games where she placed second in team and third in duet.  Maddie finished her athletic career in 2011 at the Canadian Open where she achieved gold in three events - Senior solo tech, Senior duet tech and Senior duet championships.  Currently Maddie is coaching the 12 & Under team as well as the pre-competitive group.
